Today we’d like to introduce you to Demetria Dandridge.
Demetria, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
While working as a registered nurse in a hospital, I had been constantly educating patients on illness prevention but was not exactly practicing what I was preaching. When I turned 40, I decided to begin my health and fitness journey.
When I started to become consistent with working out over the years, I noticed that I was purchasing a lot of workout clothes. It was then that I decided to start my own fitness apparel line for women called Purple Butterfly Collection. I started this business at the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, which was not an ideal time.
However, it has been 3 years later, and I’m happy to say that we are still in business. Over these last three years, I’ve started another business called D’Sculpt Queen Beauty and Wellness where I help clients with weight loss and health coaching.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely has not been a smooth road.
As I stated before, my first business started at the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic. On top of that, I had no idea what it took to make a business successful. I just had a vision and followed it to the of my ability. With Covid taking over, we had shutdowns and stay at home, which prevented people from going to the gym to work out.
Not many people were thinking about exercising during this time. at the gym or otherwise. Of course, the business did not take off immediately and it took time to gain some traction eventually.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’ve been a Registered Nurse for 13 years. I currently work part-time doing multiple specialties.
As stated, I own two businesses which are health and fitness related. What sets me apart from others is that I definitely use my nursing knowledge to help educate and coach regarding wellness and disease prevention.
What were you like growing up?
I grew up in the small town of Coldwater, Mississippi. I’m a country girl at heart.
Growing up, I was an only child for 10 years, so I pretty much was able to entertain myself. I danced in front of my mirror a lot and pretended to teach my dolls.
I knew at a young age that I wanted to help people. I didn’t know quite at what capacity. When I graduated high school, I studied Medical Technology and switched gears later to focus on Nursing.
