Today we’d like to introduce you to Dorian Baham
Hi Dorian, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Dorian Baham and it all started in June of 1995 on Tupac Shakur’s birthday in New Orleans. I grew up in a family of models, comedians, and beauticians (professionally). My Mom was all three but her main job was a beautician. At the age of 3 I started cutting my baby doll’s hair. By The age of 12 I really started the interest in hair but more so the clippers. My parents went to prison at my age of 13 and that’s where I began to take my craft more seriously. By the age of 15 I aimed more towards the medical field and took the steps towards that future. However, by the age of 16 my Mom was home, reopened a salon and we named it after Tupac “Picture ME Rollin”. Fast forwarding that salon still exists in New Orleans caring on the legacy of my now late Mother and giving back to the command neighbors of New Orleans. Because of my career path I am now a book author, a city ambassador for New Orleans, I own PICTURE ME ROLLIN (though I’ve downsized it) I now live in Atlanta, Georgia traveling to New orleans to service clients who has supported us through generations and run my other business named “Just Drink It” that is corporate mobile event mixology all over. I also have a shoe brand out in my Mom’s honor symbolizing her walk/our walk. To sum it up this story has so many layers to who we are and what we’ve done to touch the lives of many.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The journey has been a Rollercoaster! I am a survivor of Hurricane Katrina, domestic violence, homelessness, B.P. oil spill, and having had Covid 3 times whike also losing my Mom, Dog, Friends and family members to Cobid all while still going! My testimony is to provide the encouragement to others not to quit! Refer to my literature NEVER JUDGE A BOOK BY THE COVER, LIFE HAPPENS TO THE BEST OF US, & UMSTUCK.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
So I’ve been a barber stylist for 30 years and salon owner for 19 of those years. I specialize in women with high blood pressure, diabetes, menopause, thyroid, etc. who has experienced hair loss and want to feel beautiful without wigs. I also have written self help books of surviving life’s traumas like domestic violence and other overcomings. I’m an philanthropist for my home town New Orleans for the community. I travel from Atlanta to New Orleans twice a month now since my move 4 years ago to keep my commitment to my long life clients and to better my community I’ve left behind. I’m also a ln owner of a Mobile bartending business that accommodates events, corporate parties and receptions, etc. I travel with that from state to state as well. I am a host for events and shows. I’ve been in and on tv shows, movies, etc. I’m an all around entrepreneur who still wants more and still feel I have so much to accomplish since Covid started and overall life goals.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
My favorite books have been my own. Once upon a time I hosted a show on radio called “THE UNSTUCK SHOW”. The acronym for UNDERSTAMDING NOBODY SUCCEEDS UNDERMINING CRITICAL KNOWLEDGE. It was a show about overcomings and where you felt you had gotten stuck in your life but also how you’ve overcame that hurdle. The show took a pause because I had some other things to commit to, yet it’s still my baby. I listen to alot of random shows of motivating and uplifting in times of dismay.
