Rising Stars: Meet JACK MIELE KASSIE NETHERLAND of NEW ORLEANS

Today we’d like to introduce you to JACK MIELE KASSIE NETHERLAND

Hi JACK MIELE, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
JACK:

My journey in the music industry began about 30 years ago when I started performing with live bands. I turned professional at 15 and transitioned to studio recording at around 19 or 20, ultimately building my own recording studios. Since then, I’ve owned and managed several studios, and I am currently involved with my company, simply called, Jack Miele Productions.

Throughout my career, I’ve been fortunate to work on records for artists such as Rod Stewart, Yungblud, Dr. John, Jamie Foxx, Chris Stapleton, Zac Brown Band, American Horror Story, and Blues Traveler.

Similarly, Kassie’s music career began in live bands before she moved into the studio as an engineer, achieving significant success. She’s had an album reach the top 10 on the Billboard charts and has worked on records for such artists including Stone Gossard from Pearl Jam and Leo Nocentelli from The Meters. After working side by side in the studio for a decade, we decided to expand and combine our expertise in live music and transition into band management. Thus, we founded JMP Management and are currently managing the talented young rock band, Few Blue, based in New Orleans.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
KASSIE:

In many aspects of the music industry you have to be your own boss which takes a lot of discipline. You have to get up every day and be accountable to yourself first and foremost. It takes a strong will and a ton of dedication to push your brand forward in a noticeable way, especially in today’s market where the industry is so saturated with talent in every sector. Social media has given everyone a platform to put themselves out there which is great, but has definitely made it more difficult to really stand out. It can be discouraging sometimes to have to continue to push yourself day in and day out, especially if you’re not seeing the kind of results you initially expected. This industry can be brutal so it’s important to remind yourself why you’re doing this, lean into your intentions, and never be afraid to fail.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
JACK:

Our work revolves around various aspects of the music industry, providing a comprehensive range of services. We handle album production, songwriting, artist and brand management, and offer a wide array of services to support artists as they step into the music world. Our goal is to instill confidence in artists and elevate their music to a level that matches that of label artists. We also focus on developing skills that will benefit the artist in the long term. We take great pride in our achievements, having contributed to the creation of 11 platinum albums in our studio, and having served as an engineer on a Grammy-winning album and five Grammy-nominated albums. We’ve also received 6 global music awards, 8 telly awards, and worked on 15 top 10 records and an Emmy-winning music promo. Our management team is particularly proud of our collaboration with Few Blue, as we’ve seen tremendous growth in them since we started working together.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
KASSIE:

Memphis, like New Orleans, loves its food and its live music! I believe those two things speak to the soul like nothing else can. It’s a shared human experience that can only be felt when you’re physically present and there in the moment, with one another. It’s something sacred that can’t be experienced online and I think it’s important to keep that tradition alive.
