Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamean Graves.
Hi Jamean, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have been wearing heels since I was 19 years old. I’ve always loved how they completed any outfit or made the simplest stretch pants and tops look well put together. I started sending shoes I loved to different store owners, until I realized I was doing most of the leg work with research so I decided to open my own Shoetique.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Absolutely not, business ownership is more than a title. It’s peaks and valleys. My struggle initially was finding vendors that would fit into what I wanted to offer besides the look it was a lot of trial and error to find great quality. Even today, trying to branch out and work with other designers and brands can be difficult because again the quality has to be there.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
By day I own and operate my online Shoe Boutique and I’m a professional that maintains a 9-5 along with doing some contract work. I’m most proud that I’ve still been able to maintain my career and business. My shoe boutique really operates from spring to fall because my niche is high heels. Me keeping a low quantity of styles and also working with private labels set me apart because it gives me the opportunity to offer something different.
What do you think about happiness?
My family, it’s the one thing that allows refocusing and clarity. Family is medicine and therapy for me.
