Jauston Carter

Hi Jauston, It’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, could you share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was always a singer ever since I was a kid. I just thought about taking music seriously when I started college in 2018. One day, I was sitting in my dorm room, scrolling through Instagram, and saw two artists making a music cover. I enjoyed it, and there is so much talent going on. These guys could sing, play instruments, and create their beats. Their names are William Singe and Alex Aiono. These guys, especially William Singe, inspired me to take music seriously. I started practicing every day with my vocals and saved up some money to buy everything I needed to start my home studio. Even tho I had no idea what I was doing. I laughed at myself every time I failed and tried to sound like William Singe and all the other artists I admire, like Drake, The Weeknd, August Alsina, DDG, and more. Many of these artists inspire me to this day. I’ve grown into my artistry and am where I inspire myself. After college, I watched many YouTube tutorials on singing lessons and how to use and set up my studio equipment. Around 2019, I released my very first music cover. I was already dropping small videos of myself singing in my studio, and everybody loved them. They were surprised by my talent and never thought I could sing like I did. Even today, people say I sound a lot like The Weeknd. After my first cover, I continued to release more and more. Music covers were something I enjoyed so much. My first mixtape was a 15-track full of music covers, and it felt great because the feedback I received was very positive. It wasn’t long before I started writing my songs. My first song, “That’s Facts,” was released on my 21st birthday, and I will never forget it. My first album, “Life Lessons,” was another game changer for me because it was the original song that I had written. I gained so many supporters and relationships with different artists to collaborate with. And now that I have released my recent album, “Leap of Faith,” I keep moving. Music has always been like therapy because I have been through a lot mentally. I never grew up in a struggle, but mentally, I always had a battle with myself. Music was and still is my escape and my happiness. I feel like a different person when I’m in the studio, and it’s a person I’m striving to be.

It wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It was smooth because I was never shy about putting myself out there. In my heart, I have always known I was a singer, even if I didn’t realize it until I started college in 2018. The hardest part was learning how to start everything. I learned how to sing and write songs, use my studio equipment the right way, and take criticism, whether it’s constructive or not. Or even how the music industry works as a whole. Learning all these things was hard, but if you’re passionate about something, then it’s not work at all.

Let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
As an artist, I’m good at everything, including music covers and original songs. Dedication, singing, and creativity are my biggest strengths in my craft. I am most proud of the music I have in general. Every time I listen to myself, I get more motivated.
