Rising Stars: Meet Kasey Acuff

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kasey Acuff.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
For as long as I can remember, I’ve always loved makeup; I remember watching my mom get ready when I was younger and loved the confidence it gave her (she literally didn’t go to the mailbox without her red lips). I also grew up being bullied based on my appearance and always had this desire to be able to make others feel their best self and never have that feeling.

The most rewarding part of my job is when my clients look at themselves and you see their faces light up because they feel so good, I’ve even had a few shed happy tears. I started my makeup journey at Sephora around 2007 after I graduated from esthetic school. Around 2009, the Memphis grizzly girls reached out to me to ‘try out’ to see if I would be a good fit as their makeup artist, it was the opening night of the Miami heat game. After that, I continued to be their official makeup artist for 9 years until my wedding schedule got so busy, I had to throw in the towel. I’ve been a makeup artist for 15 years and counting and I still love it as much as I did when I started. My most exciting moment was being able to fly to LA and get certified by Kim Kardashian makeup artist Mario in a private makeup class where Kim Kardashian was the model.

I also was able to meet both of them, definitely a moment I will never forget and I owe it to my husband for making it happen He’s always been my biggest fan and has given me the confidence to grow and succeed as I have. I’m so thankful for how much my business has grown these years and honestly, it’s still hard for me to believe I continue to have my dream job as my career.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
The hardest part was getting my name out there, it took me around seven years to be able to fully quit any other jobs I had to help me pay my bills. I had to work random receptionist jobs in between until I took a leap of faith and attempted to only run my makeup business for income and my business took off.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in weddings and large bridal parties. I average a minimum of four weddings a weekend during wedding season. I’ve been told my speed sets me apart, I average a full glam session around 12 minutes per client.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
I always appreciate referrals, my job pretty much relies on word of mouth. The easiest way is to shout out my IG Kasey Acuff Makeup Artist.
