Rising Stars: Meet Ketrail Bellamy of Independence, MS

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ketrail Bellamy

Ketrail, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started music by freestyling as a kid with my older siblings and relatives, which later turned into my brother and sisters booking parties and letting me perform in clubs at 15. I eventually graduated high school and started performing city to city for a while with the hopes of building a name for myself as an independent artist. I’ve performed in Memphis, Birmingham, Charlotte, Chicago, and more! I have also graduated from Northwest Community College and Ole Miss, while still pursuing music. In recent years, I started a career in modeling, which has also led me to perform in fashion shows within the memphis area. I am currently working on more music and trying to take things to an even higher level.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not. The sound that I have built is unique, which means I have had to really put the work in to find my audience. A part of that journey has taught me to really have faith and confidence in whatever I do, even if people don’t see the vision yet. I have went from having my own space, to moving back home during this time as well. I have also had to take a break while in school, in order to try and create some stability. There have been moments where I have had writers block and couldn’t write for months. Also times where I have felt like giving up because being overlooked can make you question your own talents or capabilities. I am also independent, so I fund everything which has been a obstacle itself when you really want to give your audience high quality content. I have also had to find myself in order to grow not only my music, but my relationships. Being a creative is not easy, but the reward is worth the risk.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am an artist, but most importantly, I am a rapper who goes by the name KAE. Ultimately my music is a mix of confidence, vulnerability, and perseverance. I focus on positivity and uplifting people, while also making sure it’s the hardest thing you ever heard. I’ve always felt like a mainstream artist, but from the perspective of someone from the south. I love rapping over bass heavy beats with lyricism you only catch if you pay attention. I am also a great performer. I feel like I bring a level of showmanship to music that people can appreciate and really get behind! My ability to captivate people with certain songs and wordplay has truly become amazing.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Well, I am very much so looking for a mentor. However, I would just advise people to be authentic when networking. Try to avoid only networking with people because of how you think they can benefit you. God can bring you opportunities from anywhere. Another piece of advice is that being yourself will attract the people that align with you. You don’t want to spend your whole life trying to be someone that you’re not. You also don’t want too many people around you who only love your flowers, but not your roots. Relationships are big in this industry, make sure you’re building the right ones.
