Hi Martique, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have always had a keen interest in eyebrows. In 2003 my cosmetology teacher noticed my passion and said that I could be a professional eyebrow artist and although eyebrows weren’t popular at the time, her comment stayed with me.
After cosmetology school graduation, I went to work for Supercuts. I would offer a pro bono Brow shaping as a finishing touch.
I would continue to offer free brows at my own full service salon that I opened In 2013
It was then that I realized the amount of permanent damage that the nail and threading shops were causing to clients who were unbeknownst to the lack of concern and training these places offered
I attended a class for Microblading in 2016 and went live on Social Media doing my sister’s brows a couple of months later,
The video went viral (well I considered it viral!) and I started getting phone calls and inquiries galore!
In April of 2016, i was only charging $85 and I got over 150 clients! The next month i went up to $150 and it only got better
The beauty industry is an ever evolving industry and although I didn’t set out to be a full service total solution eyebrow studio. My passion for eyebrows is what got me here ❤️
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Yes, and no because For the most part, I consider myself lucky in the sense that I have never had a lack of clients, and that’s because people are able to search the Internet for help from the damage nail and threading shops are have caused,
And yes there has been struggles on the education part of it, as it is not endorsed in schools so trying to convince people that they can actually make money in brows can be intimidating,
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in professional eyebrow, artistry, and healthy eyebrows.
I am most proud of the fact that I actually possess a talent that makes people look and feel much better about themselves.
