Today we’d like to introduce you to Mary Kate Whitmire.
Hi Mary, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I remember reading fashion and beauty blogs through my first years in college and wanting to be part of that world. My own blog, Chic Little Honey, started quite modestly. I took mirror photos of the outfits I wore to class, my nail polish collection, and my daily Starbucks. That little blog has since grown into a place I share my favorite outfits and beauty products, recipes, home renovations, and more.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Chic Little Honey is my little side hustle. I’ve been lucky enough to be a content creator in addition to my full-time work in corporate advertising, so I can create as much content or as little as I want.
Over the past couple of years, I’ve definitely experienced burnout when it comes to creating new, exciting, and engaging content for my audience. I’ve been writing Chic Little Honey, and all its corresponding social media, for close to seven years now, so it was bound to happen. I’ve slowly been able to overcome the burnout and creator’s block by putting my mental health and happiness first.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Chic Little Honey started as a way to showcase what I wore in college. From classes to date nights to weekends at home, I loved putting together and sharing my outfits. It’s transformed into a space where I can still showcase my style, but with a more adult twist.
The personal style I’ve honed over the years is light-hearted and elevated while still remaining accessible and easy to wear. I coordinate high with low, thrifted with designer, bold with understated, all whole making it uniquely me. Chic Little Honey is meant to inspire others to build their own closets with items they love, feel good in, and make them smile.
I feel lucky enough that I get to carry my passion for fashion (pardon the cliche phrase) into my full-time career. I’m currently an advertising copywriter for Dillard’s corporate office in Little Rock, Arkansas. I get to go into work and be surrounded by fashion! It’s pretty awesome.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts, or blogs that help you do your best?
I love listening to podcasts while I work at my full-time job, and recently I’ve been binging Anything Goes with Emma Chamberlain. Her dry wit and humor carry me through my work, but each episode also reminds me I’m not alone in my troubles or out-there thoughts. It keeps me grounded. It keeps me going. It keeps me sane.
