Today we’d like to introduce you to Nathan Jolly
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I wanted to fit in. Everyone laughed at me and made fun of me. I started on the school bus in 8th grade staring out of the windows. I’ve been battling addiction from family abuse for over 15 years. I’m lucky to be alive. I started producing 7 years ago. I’ve released over 1000 songs. I never gave up. I’ve performed with big boogie, I’ve recorded on my favorite artists Yeats producer. Won awards from memphis hip hop. I started off recording on the cheapest microphone you’ve probably ever heard of I remember it was a called a snowball a neighbor who believed in me gave it to me. I fell deep into the streets got involved with gangs and started selling drugs. All these years later I’ve left it al behind to dedicate my life to God. I got stabbed in the leg and had the knife twisted to the bone, we were sure if I would ever walk again. So many nights I was on so much drugs I didn’t ever think I would wake up again. When I went to rehab I tested positive for 18 drugs. At 18 I caught a aggravated burglary charge and luckily got into memphis drug court. It honestly saved my life. Through all the pain I’ve achieved more than I ever thought I would. If I never make it big time im proud of myself for never stopping and I never will. This is my only passion. Music is my only outlet of emotion. I’ve become infatued with 90s rap but I spent 6 years studying Yeats music and watched his upbringing on the charts from the start. Im so proud to say I worked with his producer. Im.coming to the top of the game and I’ll never give up. Heartbreak and crime tried to stop me but God has a plan for me. I’m supposed to be dead I’ve almost died countless times but God has a ultimate plan for me.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It was never a smooth road. I was instantly ridiculed, laughed at. I’ve wanted to give up countless times. I got drug manufacturing and intent to distribute charges, aggravated burglary, theft $10000-$60000, aggravated burglary, had a drug sting operation happen to me. I fell into Xanax and exctacy due to the life, my dealer got me on fentanyl telling me it was the same as Xanax. I’ve lost most of my friends to overdoses. Even my best friend. I’ll never give up for him. I was 18 facing at least 10 years in prison the week of my 18th birthday. The drugs took me over my old best friend got my ex pregnant at the time. I never gave up and I never will. From sexual abuse to drug addiction I was binded by chains my whole life until now. Now I have a child on the way and am about to be married. Lots of praying.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a engineer, producer, self writer, rapper, singer. Im most proud of working with Yeats producer I studied his music since 2017 and really was influenced by his style. What sets me apart is that I don’t give up. Everyone seems to thing it’s impossible but it’s all about money. What sets me apart is I pour my heart out or let my rage out, I use it as a outlet for emotion others use it as an outlet for income. I never cared about any of that. I care about the music itself. I want people to know through my music their not alone and give them serotonin because music saved my life
Who else deserves credit in your story?
Dream awake (Yeats producer) opened up opportunities for me by producing my track black and white Tv. Cherry tru and Rico Owen’s put My face on stage. They put me on stage with big boogie who Is a huge memphis artist. Open mics helped me get out there. My biggest supporters are my good friend Christian Houston Tommy price rand and Noah garner before he passed. Most importantly my fiance Brittany Stewart gives me the courage to keep going.
