Today we’d like to introduce you to Savetra Harris.
Hi Savetra; we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Well, this is a tale of two businesses. I’ve always had a love for makeup. I dabbled in it here and there but didn’t dive deep into it until about 2009. I discovered makeup tutorials on YouTube, and a whole world opened up. I started practicing different looks on myself and pretty much perfected that. Other people would see my makeup and ask me to do theirs. I had never done anyone else’s makeup before, so I knew I needed a face to practice. My sister volunteered, and I began practicing on her in about 2011. In 2013 I got my first paid client, which was a wedding, and I’ve been going since.
In 2020 at the height of Covid, I was forced to close, as did others in the beauty industry. I still needed an income, so I decided to introduce the world to my artisan soaps and other bath and body care products. I started making cold process soap because I have children with sensitive skin, and I wanted a product without all the harsh ingredients, so I tried my hand at making my own because it combined my love of science and creativity.
After the soap, I thought, why don’t I create a whole line of bath products that consumers can buy and pamper themselves at home? Products such as body scrubs, body creams, and body oils are just a few of the products that I offer. I’m all about taking time out for myself, and nothing says self-care, like taking care of your skin. I decided to combine both businesses, and Elise Beauté was born.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
This has been a challenging road. As a makeup artist, I want to make myself visible in a saturated industry and set myself apart from others. Regarding the product line side, there have been a lot of long nights of creating, testing, and retesting formulations to ensure I am giving consumers my best creations.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
First and foremost, I am a professional makeup artist. I specialize in beauty makeup for weddings, photoshoots, fashion shows, and any special occasion. I’m the makeup artist that will give a clean natural look but with a bit of razzle-dazzle. I pride myself on the reactions I get after handing clients the mirror. That moment is priceless and means everything to me. The proudest moment in my career so far was the opportunity to work as HMUA for a documentary about Stax Records by HBO that was released in 2023. To have my name in the credits on the small screen is a significant achievement for me. What sets me apart from others is the drive I have to reach my goals. No matter my adversities, I won’t let them stop me.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
When working in this industry, you must be a good listener and have integrity and patience. Along with having a good attitude, possessing all of these characteristics or qualities is important if you want to be successful and have longevity.
