Rising Stars: Meet Shannon McGregor of Bartlett

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shannon McGregor

Hi Shannon, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Back in 2018 I went through the darkest, toughest part of my life. As I began to heal and rebuild my life I knew I wanted and needed a way to keep myself busy and a way to express myself somehow. So I bought a Cricut cutting machine and started making shirts and testing out my crafting abilities. By 2020 a friend saw the potential in me and asked me why I don’t sell my t-shirts, but I didn’t know anything about how to get started selling your own products. She asked me first what I would call my business. I thought of many cute business names, but I came up with remedy and

I loved the fact that I was aiming to be a remedy by helping people feel cute with custom t-shirts, offering sizes considered to be size inclusive, and of course offering an affordable price. Also, making the t-shirts had become my remedy! Looking at the word remedy I realized all that was missing was an “H” and then all of my children’s first initials would be included. So I added an “H” and now had My R.H.E.M.edy! I loved it so much because when I needed a remedy God showed me and gave me “My R.H.E.M.edy”! My life which in 2018 had been turned upside down, now suddenly had so much meaning and purpose. I found my remedy in my children and making t-shirts. Eventually my friend had me sign up for a vendor spot at the Landers Center in Southaven, MS. with The Southern Flea Market, but they didn’t have an opening. To my surprise 3 days before the show I got a call that they had an opening and asked me if I still wanted a spot and I said yes. 5 years later I’m still doing the flea market and craft shows. I upgraded my Cricut to a Direct To Film printer and now I not only make custom t-shirts, but I print custom transfers as well. My business continues to grow and I feel so proud of myself and how far I have come!
My R.H.E.M.edy Custom Shirts and DTF Transfers- “Making the world a more beautiful place one shirt at a time!”

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Everything I know today with my business I have had to teach myself which means mistakes were made along the way from deciding I wanted to start printing my own DTF Transfers to getting the right printer, learning the program, maintenance on the printer, getting the image centered on the shirt. I’ve definitely learned through the struggles to get where I’m at today!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My R.H.E.M.edy ( inspired by my children’s names which are Rodney, Hayden, Emilie and Madi ) is a locally owned size inclusive custom shirt and DTF printing small business in Bartlett, TN. My intentions are focused on spreading joy and positivity through printing custom direct to film ( DTF ) shirt transfers and custom t-shirts such as my signature t-shirt bar usually at the Landers Center in Southaven, MS. where I press your choice of t-shirt and design on the spot! Im most proud of showing my kids that you can overcome anything and you can become whoever you want to become as long as you work hard and you love hard. Check me out on Tiktok/Tiktok shop, Instagram and Facebook!

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
The best advice I can give you for networking is having a business card. You can hand those out to anyone and everyone. Have your name, email, and all your social media on that card, you never know who you may meet.
