Today we’d like to introduce you to Shellia Jackson.
Hi Shellia, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Hello again my name is Shellia Jackson and I have been doing childcare for over 20 years. For 13 years I operated as a family day home our hours were 24 hours I and my late husband Darrick Sr was the next upcoming power company until life happen 3 years ago when he left us all I could do was step up because of our 3 kids is it easy no but when the community knew that my love was no longer here with me there was nothing that I could do but be me.
Jackson use to always say that I would give myself away if I could lol because I always looked at every family that came through our doors as family. So 7 years ago god blessed my husband who blessed me with my very first center and when I had to continue without him I try to make sure every year in July our annual backpack giveaway is bigger this year.
I decided to give away 1,000 backpacks to the community along with friends and family with donations you name it we had it because this year was our lucky 7 with that being said me and Jackson had literally planned out our years but god had other plans as I ready no so to show my love for my husband and how he always went hard for us, especially my insane ideals giving and being the best mom I can be. I’m not sure what is in store for me but with god all things are possible.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My struggles were losing my dad and husband a year apart and to see my kid’s heart so broken.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a Black Owned Childcare Provider 3 stars childcare who is getting ready for accreditation and also getting ready to launch my staffing agency with my sister.
My life now is so unreal because going from a man that literally did everything for you until you doing it all just know there is a god. I’m proud of myself because god has should me my strength and giving up is not an option.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
What I learned in this journey is to always learn your business from the inside out and stop thinking everyone’s heart is like yours.
