Today we’d like to introduce you to Sherunda Harlin.
Hi Sherunda, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Hello everyone!!! I am Sherunda “Rena'” Harlin, the founder and CEO of Miracles Others Make, Inc. aka MOM, Inc. I founded this nonprofit in 2020 after adopting my son Malachi… one of the many reasons for starting this business and nonprofit was because I realized that everyone’s struggle with infertility is unique and different just as much as their journey to being at peace or finding a solution.
Some women struggle with Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), endometriosis, or pregnancy loss while others like myself have a multilayered story of what led to their barrenness. So I started this business and nonprofit to not only empower those who share similar experiences but educate our community on the sensitivities revolving around this battle and ask questions like “When should I have this candid conversation about infertility and loss with my significant other?” or “how do I explain to my family and friends that I’m having a baby but not “birthing” it?”
So I started this to let the next woman know, I’ve been where you are, but the exciting news is you do not have to do it alone because MOM, Inc. is a safe place that offers a community of support from anticipating, new, and experienced mothers, as well as resources (for those who wish to adopt, foster, or go the surrogacy route) it’s all about staying the course, trusting the process and exploring ALL options.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road at all. A struggle I often face is making sure I have a particular size and/or color, of items that are out of stock and slow to restock, another struggle is when doing consultations with people who is not completely open to exploring all their options and learning more.
Some of the personal struggles that I’ve faced have been balancing work, this non-profit, being a mom, planning a wedding, and grieving the losses of those near and dear to me.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Outside of MOM Inc, I am in law enforcement. I have been so proud of being a part of the Memphis Police Department as a dispatcher.
Deciding to begin a career as a 911 dispatcher has been one of the best decisions of my life. This job is tough a lot of times, but the reward and feeling of helping someone you don’t even know is worth it. I enjoy helping my community and being a vital part of keeping them safe.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
