Rising Stars: Meet Zechariah Shepard

Today we’d like to introduce you to Zechariah Shepard.

Hi Zechariah, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve been interested in fashion honestly as long as I could remember, then I started my Instagram page in 2015. I started posting outfit pictures and did this for about three years and hit big with H&M noticing me and featuring one of my posts.

After that things slowly started to take off with local brands asking me to wear their clothes, local photographers asking could they take my pictures, and I participated in a few fashion events/shows. Then I really got interested in modeling as I realized it’s an option I had, a classmate at the time actually told me I should model.

I stayed on the grind and just never really stopped then Dr. Martens reached out to me sometime in May of 2020 and published one of my photos, shortly after that, I was having photoshoots multiple times a week and making money off of modeling, wearing the looks of some of the biggest brands out currently. I’m so blessed to be given as many opportunities as I’ve received to this day.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, I’ve wanted to quit so many times between all of this, countless late nights of self-doubt, and questioning myself. A younger me always asked myself could I really do this? You never really know until you try and that’s why I never gave up. I have a great support system between all my friends, my mother, and my two sisters. They really kept me going.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a Memphis-based fashion & commercial model. I’m known for my vintage & rockstar-influenced style. I’m most proud of really pushing myself to be the best I can be at my craft and stepping out of my comfort zone.

I really think what sets me apart from others is my creativity in my work. I try my best to push out concepts that haven’t really been seen before in Memphis.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Chase Wolfe @prodwolfe was one of the first professional photographers to ever take my pictures, it was for an Atlanta-based clothing brand. Tavis Harvey @shotbytrendin is one of my good friends who l collaborated with often in my earlier days in modeling, Sabrina Lucas @rampagephotography another constant collaborator and one of my favorites!

My best friends Kolby, David, Jason, and Brian would take my pictures probably up to 7 times a week. Not only did they take my pictures but they supported me like no other and still do. David Winston, Jakobie Britton, and Carl Bledsoe Jr., are also models from Memphis who helped me and inspired me and currently still do.

I can’t thank these people enough for all they’ve done for me, I’ll never forget.
