Daily Inspiration: Meet Maliya Luboti

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maliya Luboti.

Hi Maliya, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I became interested in the hair around 11 years old. I would just try different styles that I saw on others on myself. I didn’t actually start doing other people’s hair until I was 18 and in college. People would ask who did my hair and when I said I did, they would ask me to do theirs the same way. I built a small clientele in college and it grew after I graduated, but honestly, I didn’t consider it as a career until 25. At that time, I really wasn’t happy with the jobs in my field and wanted to do something that I enjoyed. I enrolled in cosmetology school and once I was licensed, I began to grow my clientele.

I started So Plush Collection in 2020 at the start of the pandemic. During the shutdown, I began making wigs and showing off the hair textures that I offered and the orders started rolling in. So Plush Collection has been growing ever since.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
There have been ups and down as a cosmetologist for sure, mainly with building a clientele and having people trust me to care for and style their hair. Once I grew my clientele, I was able to expand and provide hair extensions and wigs to my clients.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
So Plush Collection specializes in high-quality extensions and closure wigs. My company is known for having full extensions and wigs that have bounce and body. The biggest thing that sets So Plush Collection apart from other companies is the fact that is of my wigs are glueless and beginner friendly.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
When looking for a mentor or business coach, make sure to really do your research. Make sure that whoever you choose actually has experience running a successful business, whether it be in your field or something similar. Don’t necessarily base it on social media popularity, base it on the mentor’s level of expertise, experience, and competency.

What I love about networking is that it allows you to connect with people that can help your business grow and increase exposure for your business. What has worked well for me has honestly just been talking to people when I’m out at different events. Pop-up shops and network mixers are good as well.
