Today we’d like to introduce you to Lacarrious Thomas.
Hi Lacarrious, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I understand the need and desire to have a well-balanced and successful life. Fashion has played a huge part in the many successes I have achieved. As a proud lifelong Memphian, I have been an entrepreneur for 14 years and have been awarded numerous awards including the inaugural Tri-State Defender Best in Black Award for my retail business Nikki T. Fashions. I was a recipient of the city of Memphis’s Open on Main, a business initiative in which the city provides business owners retail space at no cost. I also took part in Memphis Fashion Week, the premier Memphis fashion space for independent clothing designers.
I have mentored and assisted numerous women-owned businesses during their entrepreneurship journey. This love for mentorship led me to create “Design your Life”, an annual vision board and women’s empowerment event. I also have a passion for helping and encouraging the youth. I created “Prom Queen”, an annual prom dress drive for junior high and high school girls in Memphis. All of my community efforts have been grassroots and addressed the varying social, economic, and health needs of my community. These needs and my passion for helping others encouraged me to pursue and obtain a Bachelor of Professional Studies with a focus on Non-Profit Administration from the University of Memphis.
This experience I have gained in my entrepreneurship journey and in my professional life as a Business Consultant. has allowed me to help women see their beauty through fashion while incorporating it into their businesses. This has been done through business ownership, social media influencing, and dressing for the corporate world.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No. When I started in fashion as a boutique owner I didn’t have a mentor or any direction. Therefore, I made mistakes that cost me time and money. I was able to learn from my mistakes very quickly, pivot when needed, and create solutions to better my business, but having a mentor would have made my journey easier.
