Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth Wiggs.
Hi Elizabeth, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I have always loved photography. I started taking photography classes when I was in high school and fell in love with the film process. I transformed my family attic into a darkroom at the age of 15. I got my degree in journalism, where I became much more educated about lighting. I ended up working as a news producer for a local television station and continued in the digital world of photography as a hobby.
Eventually, I started taking pictures on the side for friends and family, and before I knew it, my business was born. I tell everyone… I never intended to start my own business, but it found me, and I couldn’t be more grateful.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I’ve been fortunate to never have to struggle for clients. I waited until I had a steady stream of clients before quitting my full-time job. As women, I think we often think we can take on the world. The most challenging times for me have been trying to juggle running a business and raising children. Finding balance will forever be my goal. It’s always the thing that I am always trying to keep in check.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I do headshots, senior sessions, real estate photography, and in the past, weddings. But I think most people know me for my family photography. My career in journalism has contributed in so many ways to my business.
I consider myself a storyteller through images. My primary goal is to capture the personality of your family at each milestone and each stage. As a mom, I know that moments are fleeting, and often, forgotten. I want you to look back at your images in 10 years, and feel the warmth, silliness, and chaos that life held back then.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I most definitely do not consider myself a risk-taker. I would have never had the courage to quit my full-time job to start this business. I was fortunate enough to be able to do both until I set aside enough money to have the security I needed to give it a shot. I knew if I failed, I could still pay the bills until I found another job.
Luckily, that day never came. However, I have seen risks pay off for so many of my friends and family. So, I am most definitely not against it and am usually in awe of those who can take them so boldly.
