Meet Kristian Spight of East Memphis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristian Spight

Hi Kristian, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Before I start this interview I would like to dedicate this article to my late mom Deborah Moore who just passed this Valentine’s Day. She was so proud of me and always telling everyone how much of a great makeup artist I was. I didn’t even get to tell you I was going to be published in the Memphis Voyager. I love you and miss you so much momma. (Oct 1, 1962- February 14, 2025). Growing up as a dancer I always indulged in makeup and beauty but my influence came from my great aunt (auntie m) and my late mom (Deborah Moore). I would watch them get ready in the bathroom while they coloured their cheeks with rosy pink and red blush, plump their lips with a bright red lipstick with fierce black 90s brows and eyeliner. Watching and studying them would later be the influence for my brand Colourmefaces.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road is still bumpy, but I have been welcomed by some great Muas and made some great friends along the way. I still struggle with a consistent clientele but I remember why I’m doing what I do and I know that long as I stick to the plan the overflow will come. My mom always loved to be my muse and let me be creative to match our colourful personalities.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m an artist so I try not to box myself in with a specific look. My motto for Colourmefaces is “where beauty comes in all colours!” I love seeing my clients become more confident when leaving my chair knowing that the natural beauty that is already there has been enhanced and not transformed. Don’t get me wrong though I am also a firm believer in putting that makeup on! In my early stages of my journey I was actually more known for my creative holiday looks and unique eye practice board designs that involve bright colours, crazy liners and glitter but I also can slay down a natural glam. I am also very interested in SFX and editorial makeup. I’m very versatile and can deliver for any setting or occasion.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Invest in your craft, practice as much as possible and no matter how you feel post that content! People will see the potential and the right people will come find you. Set yourself around like minded individuals and ask questions, take advice and constructive criticism and lock in! One of my good friends who is a known MUA in the MS and TN area actually reached out to me one day after looking at my work and took me along to weddings to assist and photo shoot glams to get the experience and her influence has been a great addition to my makeup progression. I’m always ready to learn new techniques and take in any new information and apply what I learn and EXECUTE!
