Rising Stars: Meet Destinee Webb

Today we’d like to introduce you to Destinee Webb.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
The Butterfly Effect is the name of my business and it has so much meaning behind it. I remember it like it was yesterday I woke up one Thursday morning preparing for work and I just felt very uneasy. I had been telling myself all week that I was tired of working for someone else and that I wanted to be my own boss. I believed that I could so the only thing left was for me to actually put my words into action and do what my heart was telling me to do.

I quit my job that Friday and I called my Bestfriend (Taylor) and told her to come over so I could practice braiding her hair. She was typically my muse when I wanted to try something new. This was around the time when knotless braids were just beginning to pop and I knew I had to master them right away! I have always known how to do hair like quick weaves, sew-ins, etc. since high school, but I had never braided using weave extensions. Once I finished Taylor’s hair, I posted the final product on my Instagram page and everyone gave me so much positive feedback.

Honestly, that gave me the confidence and extra push I needed to keep going and perfect my craft. I continued to braid hair up until this past January 22′ when God put it on my heart to pick up and take my talents to a new city. I transitioned from a hair braider to an upcoming lash tech. I know if God blessed my hair business he won’t fail me when it comes to anything else I put my mind to. I love everything about meeting new people, building relationships, being my own boss, and especially playing by my own rules.

I feel like creating my own business helped me to get out of my shell, stop being so shy, and tap into my own potential. The Butterly Effect has a big meaning… look it up!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
When it comes to entrepreneurship there will be many obstacles that you will face just like any other job. My biggest challenge was fighting against my own anxiety. When it comes to being in the beauty industry women don’t play about their hair, lashes, nails, etc.

You are always aiming to please your client, but sometimes you just simply can’t please everyone and that’s okay too. This industry reminded me of that most definitely. I take pride in being good at what I do and making sure my work is top tier, however whenever I did get negative feedback which is normal it kind of discouraged me. I didn’t let that keep me down though I eventually used the constructive criticism and went even harder. I knew I was good, but I just wanted to be great!

There were also days or even weeks where I would go from being completely booked to not getting booked at all. I must admit I had times when I wanted to quit, but I knew God hadn’t brought me this far to leave me so I kept the faith. Prayer got me through a lot of the trying times along my entrepreneurship journey and that’s why I know that all the hard work I put in is going to pay off.

What are your plans for the future?
In the future, I plan to master lashing, start holding lash classes, & maybe even open my own salon. I hope that one day in the future God puts me in a position to give women a place to call their own little beauty sanctuary.

I pray that God blesses me to be a mentor to other young girls that want to start a business no matter what it is DO IT! The motto that I have always lived by is “If God brought you to it, he will for sure see you through it.”
