Today we’d like to introduce you to Georgenia Stewart
Hi Georgenia, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I began my journey into the beauty industry at a very young age. I took cosmetology in High school and graduated with my cosmetology license in 2003. I embarked on entrepreneurship at 19 by being an independent contractor in a few salons. It wasn’t until 2019 I opened my own salon G’Spot Beauty Bistro. I have embarked on several avenues since my entrance into the industry such as teaching classes, film/tv, and theater work.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has not been a easy road. When I opened my Salon in 2019 the pandemic struck 6 months later and I was forced to close due to lock down. By the grace of God we made it through. In a highly competitive industry constantly evolving it can be difficult to stay on the cutting edge of things.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a Hair and makeup artist for film/tv, beauty educator, And Salon owner. I specialize in glam looks and character development. I am most proud of my ability to stay consistent. What sets me apart from others is my ability to collaborate and bring any vision alive rather it’s on screen or in the Salon chair.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Networking is most definitely essential. Surround yourself with those who are at the level or in the field you desire to go. Figure out how to connect with someone who is on the level you desire to go ask them can they be your mentor. If they are offering classes take them! Volunteer for them so you can soak up all the gems you can from them. Invest in the person you want to become whether it’s time or money invest!! That’s what has worked for me.
